Preventing SharePoint from converting email addresses to mailto links

  • Preventing SharePoint from converting email addresses to mailto links grimorde

    I have a WSS 3.0 SharePoint site that is automatically displaying email addresses as mailto link. Ideally I want to prevent this from happening, this is a customised site and we will be forcing users to use the discussion area to send emails.

    Is there anyway to turn this facility off? It appears to be site specific i.e. I can enter an email address in any text field and it displays as converted to a mailto link.

  • OK, so I've basically cheated by doing a jQuery update to the page instead:-

    $(function() {
            var sEmailAddress = $(this).text();

    If anyone does know if the mailto link conversion can be disabled I'd be interested to know, but the work around does the business for now.

  • Within my workflow I am using the 'Collect Data from user'. I want to send a custom email (by turning of alerts on the Task list) and using the Send Email action. My problem is I want to send a link with the task to approve in an email to the user the task has been assigned to (approver). But the action ''Collect Data from user' pauses until the task is edited which won't happen because I haven't sent the details to the approver via an email! Is there any way to get around this? • A client would like a column in a list which essentially contains a number of email addresses for users and distribution lists within his corporate network. It would be something akin to the People Picker but that cannot be used as it does not surface distribution groups. What we actually need is to display the current user's Outlook Address Book (Global Address List) instead of the People Picker. Obviously they could manually enter email addresses for these people/groups but this would take much longer. Any ideas?
