Sort By Descending upon lookup column

  • Sort By Descending upon lookup column Mike

I have a lookup column in multiple lists that points to a list of dates. These dates go in ascending order, and since the list posts are sequential, the older dates start to become irrelavent, forcing users that add new list items to scroll through to the bottom of the drop-down box to select the lastest date.

As you can tell this can be very tedious, all I need is for the lookup column to sort by DESCENDING order, and I've tried fooling with the lookup list's view, but I think it disregards the view and only looks at the list items.

    Any thoughts?

  • Could you not do this using jQuery? I also thought you could set up a separate view of the list that has the dates and just use the date field and set its sort order and then use that view for the lookup.

  • So I did create on an SPWeb 20 custom lists and then a tasks list. For each of those 20 lists I've created 20 site lookup columns. I then created 20 Content Types based on Task content type. Then I've added each content type to the Tasks list. After that I've added each lookup site column to the corresponding list content type. So far so good. I've built a custom WebPart that displays task items... columns. If I put in the FieldRef the internal name for lookup column no 14 or above, it is not working anymore. Why? If I don't use LookupId='TRUE' and do this: (use the value of the lookup

  • I've created a custom list in SharePoint 2010 from a custom content type (inherit from item) and I would like to give the users the option to order the items in this list - similar to how users can order items in an out of the box Links list. In SharePoint 2007 I did this several times by using the OrderedList property in the List element of the schema.xml, and I've tried the same approach... that indicate that the list can be ordered by a user. However, I'm missing the button (Change Item Order) on the ribbon that allows a user to order the list. I can navigate to the /_layouts/reorder.aspx

  • I want to be able to create a list programmatically which allows end users to reorder the items in the list. There appear to be 2 steps to this. Firstly set the SPList.Ordered property to true - this bit seems easy enough. The second step would seem to be to set the default view's OrderedView to be true. Unfortunately this field is readonly. I see you can set this value if you provision through CAML but I want to be able to set this after the fact in code. Does anybody know how to do this? You can see the funcitonality I'm after by creating a Links list. Then in the Actions menu you get

  • Is it possible to look-up anything but single line text values when creating a lookup column? E.g. I have a list with some general data ind it, one of the columns contains numbers. • I am using SharePoint 2007 + Windows Server 2008 with SharePoint 2007's publishing portal template. I am using List Web Part with Data Sheet view. I want to know how to make a column as a URL link (i.e. show text in the cell, and can associate a link with the text in each row for the specific column), i.e. when user clicks the text in the specific column of a specific row, the user will be directed to the link associated the text.

  • I think I found a bug. Please share if you know more about it. I use GetListItems operation to fetch items to display on an ajaxified form. Just an hour ago everything was fine, but now when I query the list with <Eq><FieldRef Name='Some/Field'><Value Type='Lookup'>Value</Value></Eq> The relevant items show up in the result set. But the values for 'Some/Field' (yes there is a slash in the displayname) are displayed as null. The field was never renamed. What is it? How can I fix?
