I've created a custom list in SharePoint 2010 from a custom content type (inherit from item) and I would like to give the users the option to order the items in this list - similar to how users can order items in an out of the box Links list.
In SharePoint 2007 I did this several times by using the OrderedList property in the List element of the schema.xml, and I've tried the same approach in 2010. I also added the OrderedView property on the View element.
After creating a list from this defintion, when I look at the list settings and attempt to modify a view then I see the options that indicate that the list can be ordered by a user. However, I'm missing the button (Change Item Order) on the ribbon that allows a user to order the list.
I can navigate to the /_layouts/reorder.aspx?List=... and order the list from that page - so my assumption is that there is some logic built into the ribbon which is stopping it from displaying the button. I've exhausted areas to look into so any ideas much appreciated.
One of the new features in SP 2010 is the dialog framework, so that the user is presented with a uniform UI. What are the best references or tutorials you've seen about this feature? So far, this is the best one I've seen, but it's just one simple example.
I have a lookup column in multiple lists that points to a list of dates. These dates go in ascending order, and since the list posts are sequential, the older dates start to become irrelavent, forcing users that add new list items to scroll through to the bottom of the drop-down box to select the lastest date. As you can tell this can be very tedious, all I need is for the lookup column to sort by DESCENDING order, and I've tried fooling with the lookup list's view, but I think it disregards the view and only looks at the list items. Any thoughts?
I have created a simple survey with SharePoint Server 2010 with the intent of allowing all our domain users to access and complete it. I added some basic branching logic to this survey as well... and clicking the "Next" button, they receive an Access Denied error. Thinking that the branching may have been causing an issue, I removed it. The users can now see the whole survey at one time, but when they try to submit their answers they still received the Access Denied error. I have tried sending an access request from a test user (as prompted by the error page), but I still received the same error
I'm trying to create folders in a set of custom lists I've created. However, when I try to do this, the New Folder button in the Ribbon is disabled. I read up on the matter; and this lead me to look to enable folder creation in List Settings -> Advance Settings. However, there doesn't seem to be an option to enable folder creation on the page. It shouldn't be a permission related issue; as I created the lists; and I'm also an admin on the farm. I could use a document library; but we will not be uploading documents to the list; so this is more then I need. What are my options, or what am I
. Note that this is just opening the Excel file without checking it out. Problem: Once in a while, and for no reason I can figure out, a user will click the button and the spreadsheet will be returned... that user opening it may get it returned to them as read-only, often other users, even multiple other users, can click the button and the spreadsheet will open for them in edit mode! Questions: What is causing this behavior? I can change the code to avoid it if I can figure out why it is happening. Is there any way in SharePoint 2010 to get the Distinct values of a property across all users? For example, I want a list of all Departments in the Profile Store. In SQL I can do SELECT DISTINCT(PropertyVal) FROM [ProfileDB].[dbo].[UserProfileValue] WHERE PropertyID = 14 but accessing the SQL Database is a big no-no of course, so I wonder if there is something in the object model? Note that accessing the User Information List on an SPSite is not good enough, as only a fraction of all users is in that list. I want to get it directly from the Profile Store. I do not want to loop through
I am using SharePoint Server 2007 Enterprise with Windows Server 2008 Enterprise. I am using publishing portal template. I am creating a list with the default "Title" column -- Title (linked to item). I want to make anonymous users to be able to view list content and also wants anonymous users to be able to click the Title link to see item details. But I find when I clicked Title link, I have to login in order to view item details. Any solutions to make anonymous user to be able to click and view Title link? thanks in advance!
I'm about to start developing a custom business application on top of Sharepoint 2010. I haven't done anything on this product but client insists on it so I don't have a choice. So I did create on an SPWeb 20 custom lists and then a tasks list. For each of those 20 lists I've created 20 site lookup columns. I then created 20 Content Types based on Task content type. Then I've added each content type to the Tasks list. After that I've added each lookup site column to the corresponding list content type. So far so good.
